6 WAYS TO CREATE AN INTIMATE, FESTIVE CHRISTMAS WEDDING
The holiday season is upon us and it’s unbelievable how quickly it snuck up on all of us this year. There is so much to look forward to during the holiday season, especially the celebrations that come along with it.
Christmas weddings are one of many events that couples all over are gearing up for during this time of the year. Whether you’re seeking inspiration for an upcoming Christmas wedding or are planning for one in the future, below are 6 simple tips and tricks that will help you create an intimate, festive atmosphere at your Christmas wedding.
1. Christmas Wedding Invitation Suite
Wedding invitations are responsible for getting the important information over to your guests, and for setting the tone for what’s to come. When you’re having a Christmas or holiday-themed wedding, invitation suites are a great first step in incorporating the creativity you’d like. An invitation suite is a wonderful way to get your guests in the holiday spirit!
If you’re on the search for a Christmas wedding invitation suite that is designed to capture the holiday spirit, but also allows you to edit as you please, the Christmas Wedding Invite template in the Plum Polka Dot Shop is a great option. If you’d prefer an invitation that is more subtle and captures the spirit of Winter, take a look at this invitation suite instead.
2. Holiday hues & tones
When you think of holiday colors, what usually comes to mind? We commonly think of green and red, however, Christmas weddings don’t always have to incorporate those two colors by any means!
Whichever colors you believe to encompass the spirit of the holidays is exactly what you should go for, and this may look different for everyone. Some Christmas hues and tones that steer away from just green and red include: reds, whites, golds, silvers, darker blues, cranberry, and so much more. Remember, the more you incorporate what aligns with your style, the more your wedding will be even more special and unique to you and your guests.
3. Festive Wedding Signage
Wedding signage is a special way to welcome any of your guests to a wedding and to encourage them to take certain actions. For Christmas Weddings, wedding signage is the perfect opportunity to incorporate a festive touch to the ceremony.
What’s so special about wedding signage is that it will always be unique to you as a couple. Between the decorative details you decide to go with all the way to what’s written on the sign, you can completely personalize the sign in the way that you please. They will also serve as a wonderful token of such a special day.
Some examples of Christmas wedding signage you can have at your wedding range between the welcome sign all the way to the signature cocktails you serve at your wedding. Have a look at the Christmas Wedding Welcome sign from the Plum Polka Dot store for some inspiration!

4. Greenery & foliage
There are plenty of ways to create gorgeous focal points for a Christmas wedding. Take garlands and centerpieces for instance. Lush greenery is a stunning way to play on that festive, winter theme you’re aiming for.
Some examples of greenery and foliage that just can’t seem to shake that Christmas feel include cedar, mistletoe, magnolia, pine, juniper and blue spruce. These can all be added to your tablescape, cake table, bar, or other displays.
Florals and wedding bouquets are still very much acceptable options to add some of that greenery and foliage as well. You can always go with floral arrangements with flowers that match the color theme of your wedding, too.
5. Candles & warm lighting
Candles are a fantastic way to play up on that warm, cozy and romantic feeling at any Christmas wedding. The good news is that there are so many ways to incorporate candlelight in a wedding, whether you choose to go with the real deal or faux lighting.
They can be used to create gorgeous, glowing centerpieces on a table, they can be used to light up the aisle you walk on, and they can even be held by guests as a way to get them to participate in your wedding (remember to use wax catchers if you go with that option!) There’s just something about candlelight that will always make an atmosphere even more enchanting and magical than it already is.
6. Bridal party accessories
Something that makes winter weddings far different than weddings in any other season is that there are plenty of ways to level up the holiday element through the accessories for your bridal party.
Faux fur shawls are a beautiful way to encompass that winter feel for your bridesmaids. They are cozy, warm, and have winter written all over them.
Hair crowns that incorporate winter greenery as well are a beautiful touch not only for bridesmaids, but for brides as well! If you’re looking for an opportunity to add another festive layer to your Christmas wedding, don’t be afraid to play with accessory choice!
While you’re getting ready, I absolutely love these hair ties as a sweet bridesmaid gift.

At the end of the day, the key to an intimate, festive Christmas wedding all comes down to incorporating what you feel captures the holiday spirit the best.
Sometimes the smallest details can have so much power and make the biggest impact on your guests. For all of your Christmas/winter wedding decor needs, the Plum Polka Dot shop has plenty of options to help you create the Christmas wedding of your dreams.
Tips for Hosting a Successful Friendsgiving This Year
We commonly know Thanksgiving to be a holiday that is celebrated with family, but in recent years, Friendsgiving has quickly become a newfound celebration that serves as an exciting way to have a Thanksgiving gathering with just your friends.
If you’re unfamiliar with Friendsgiving, it is typically celebrated in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving day. It’s a great way to catch up with friends both near and far, to not only spend some time and share a delicious meal together, but to also express gratitude for the friendships you have with those surrounding you at the table.
Just like Thanksgiving, there are a lot of ways to get creative with how you want to make the gathering unique to you. You can do this simply through the recipes you make, or, my favorite, getting creative with some fun decor!
With all that said, below are some of my top tips to help you prepare for a successful, stress-free friendsgiving this year.
Determine your guest list
If you are hosting Friendsgiving, it’s important to know who’s going to be able to join in on the gathering first, before you start to plan things like seating or the menu. After all, your guests are the ones who are going to make the celebration come to life!
Once you determine who you’d like to invite, send out invitations that require them to RSVP. That way, you’ll feel more confident moving forward with the rest of your preparations. While it may be easy to send a quick message or e-mail, why not get a little fancy this year and send paper invitations to your guests? This Friendsgiving Invitation Template in the Plum Polka Dot shop is completely editable so you can customize as you please. Make things official by adding details like the date, time, dress code, or even just a sweet personal message!

Create a menu
Food is inevitably one of the core components to a Friendsgiving! Aside from the turkey, create a menu that incorporates all the dishes your guests can expect to eat. This can include the additional sides and desserts that your friends decide to bring as well. Aside from giving your guests a clear idea of the spread, menus can make a great piece of decor on your Friendsgiving table that will up the ante of the celebration just a bit more. The Plum Polka Dot Friendsgiving Table Menus might make this a bit easier for you. The fall-themed printable can be edited to fit in seamlessly with the rest of your decor and to include all of your special dishes.
Plan out seating
As with any gathering, you’ll want to make sure that you have a clear idea of how you want your guests to be seated. Whether you want seating to be indoors, outdoors, or the atmosphere to be casual or more fancy, the choice is yours. You’ll want to ensure that you have the space and the right amount of chairs or table space beforehand so that you can accommodate your guests as best as possible. If you decide to go the fancier route, you can play around with assigned seating! Name cards are a great way to do this to help your guests show up and settle down in style. You can shop for some Plum Polka Dot fall place cards here.

Plan some activities
Good food and conversation is only just a part of your Friendsgiving gathering. Planning out some fun activities that you and your friends can participate in either during or after your meal is just one way to add some more fun to the evening. There are plenty of activities you may be able to find online, or it can be as simple as adding a twist to the traditional activity of going around and sharing what you are thankful for this year.
Have fun with decor
Friendsgiving is a great opportunity for you to get in touch with your creative side in terms of decor. To keep things safe and simple, you can always play off of the classic fall theme. You can find plenty of decor, props and printables that emulate the season of fall perfectly. Leaf gardens, mini pumpkins, fall candles, and signs are all some examples. Some of the Plum Polka Dot Thanksgiving signs not only make great decor for a Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving gathering, but can also be placed around the house for the entire fall season.

Don’t sweat the small stuff
If you are hosting Friendsgiving this year, or are playing a crucial role in helping someone plan theirs, remember that the process doesn’t have to be stressful! An evening with friends should be one that is memorable and one that you can cherish. Don’t forget to remind yourself of what Friendsgiving truly means to you and everything else will fall into place just like it’s supposed to!
Happily Ever After Fall Wedding Celebrations
Well Played Shades: Colors
The obvious choices for a fall wedding color palette are shades of oranges, reds, and yellows. We’re seeing a lot of couples selecting just one of these typical autumn colors and then adding their own spin to it. We love the look of a burgundy mixed with light pinks and bright greens. Or a golden orange highlighted with blue hues and white accents.
Take Center Stage: Centerpieces
Think about the type of wedding you’re having and match your centerpieces to it. For casual weddings, go with a rustic look with wildflowers in mason jars. For more elegance, work with your florist on stylish vases filled with beautiful flowers. These geometric gold greenery printable table number cards add the perfect finishing touch to your table decor.

Set the Right Tone: Table Settings
Make each of your guests feel exclusive with their own special place setting. For fall, we are seeing a lot of playing with textures with gauzy table runners topped with metallic placemats and patterned napkins. These different materials extend to the plates, chargers, and glassware as well. Our stunning menu cards match perfectly with the geometric gold greenery table number cards to complete the look.

Have a Seat: Tables and Chairs
A hot trend for fall weddings is to mix and match the seating. Select tables of different shapes and sizes or that are made of wood or metal. Chairs can be a mix of various colors and styles and can be spread out in a pattern or randomly mixed up. These unique set ups add interest and will have guests exclaiming as they enter your reception.

Place with Grace: Place cards
Not everything has to be pumpkins. Go with more elegant fruit options such as stone fruits. Create a lush look with persimmons, pomegranates, and pears for beautiful, rich colors. We especially like the look of the fruits on the place cards table and suggest using these fall themed name cards that are simple to download and print out.
Dressed to Impress: Wedding Dresses
The good news is that the cape look is in for fall wedding dresses. This means an extra layer of fabric to keep you warm on a cooler evening. The cape is sometimes called a shoulder duster or a ribbon train and it adds a nice element of drama to your look. If you want a slightly different look then consider a statement bolero with ruched or puff sleeves. Make it removable for a new look as the night goes on.

Go to New Heights: Favor Tags
Maybe you’re heading to the mountains for your wedding and using the stunning foliage as a backdrop to your big day. Incorporate the mountain theme into your wedding favors with these tags that will take your favors to new heights! The tags are an instant download and editable template that you can easily add your names, wedding date, or other fun details.

Dress Your Squad: Bridesmaid Dresses
If your wedding is planned for a cool fall day, then think about a heavier fabric for your bridesmaid dresses or accessorize your girls with a cute bolero or colorful pashmina. You could even consider long-sleeved bridesmaid dresses if your wedding is late in the season. If you’re going with the mountain theme, then gift your bridesmaids with these adorable scrunchies available in multiple colors.

Flower Power: Bridal Bouquet
If you choose flowers that are synonymous with fall then consider deep burgundy dahlias with a few anemones sprinkled in. If you love peonies but they are hard to find in your area, then think about roses instead. If you want to add even more seasonal taste, then add a few berries or acorns to your bouquet for a bit of a rustic touch.
A Sweet Surprise: Wedding Cake
Of course, we have to end with dessert. For a fall wedding, we love the simplicity of a white frosted cake surrounded by a few pretty fresh berries and branches for a rustic yet modern touch. If you prefer a more edible version, then consider accenting the white cake with buttercream flowers in various shades of red, yellow, and orange colors.
A Fond Farewell: The Honeymoon
Well, not quite the end yet! No wedding is complete until the honeymoon is over! The new version is the nanomoon which has replaced the minimoon. No longer can couples hop a flight to some far-off tropical destination. Instead, husband and wife are taking a nanomoon and going on a drivable trip to a nearby area such as a beach or vineyard. They hope to take a longer vacation once the world opens up more.

Tips for Throwing a Summer Outdoor Dining Soiree
In 2021, Weddings are Simple, Casual, and Unconventional
2020 was far from normal, and many wedding plans were sadly put on pause due to the pandemic, so it’s not surprising that brides and grooms in 2021 are tying the knot a little differently.
There was once a time when big, bold, and somewhat traditional weddings were all the rave, but now low-key and off-beat is in. Whether it’s due to continuing COVID restrictions, financial constraints, a taste for simplicity, or a desire to do things a little differently (or all of the above), weddings are getting a remix.
Whether you are currently planning your big day or you’re just a fan of all things matrimonial, we’ve done the hard work for you of scouring the internet for the latest wedding trends. Below are the top patterns we found. We hope you find some nuptial inspiration!
Jump for joy—jumpsuits are in!
Not all women are into dresses. Why should a woman who only wears pants in their personal life have to wear a dress on her wedding day? We think brides should get to be themselves and be comfortable on their wedding day. That’s why we’re into this bridal trend: jumpsuits! This trend is called the “Patsy,” coined by French bridal designer Rime Arodaky.
Now, the jumpsuit trend doesn’t mean you have to abandon tradition altogether. Many brides choose a white jumpsuit with rhinestones, lace, embroidery, and ruffles. Many choose to keep the veil, and even a train!
And when you think jumpsuits, don’t automatically think “business casual.” They can be plenty fancy and fitted to silhouette your figure the way you always dreamed. Also, being so practical and easy to move in, this ensemble is perfect food adventurous, outdoor elopements.
Ready to shop? Here’s one from the original designer, Rime Arodaky, and here’s a more affordable option from ASOS.
You know they’ll never desert you when… you get married in a desert.
It’s no secret elopements are on the rise. There are many reasons this may be, but traditional wedding fans, don’t fear! Elopements are still plenty elegant and memorable for the bride and groom as well as their loved ones. (Because who doesn’t love seeing their loved one living out their fantasy getaway elopement in their dream destination?)
But while there are mountain elopements, city elopements, and tropical beach elopements, there’s a new trendy location to think about: the desert! Searches for “desert elopement” on Pinterest have increased by 55% year over year in the United States and Canada.
It may not seem like an obvious choice, but the desert is a chic and inspiring backdrop that makes the bride and groom pop in photos. Plus, if you come from a cold climate but want to tie the knot in the wintertime, the desert climate is an obvious choice. (But I don’t recommend a summer desert elopement, for obvious reasons!)
A few trending desert locations for elopements are Joshua Tree, California, Garden of the Gods, Colorado, Zion National Park in Utah, and Mesa, Arizona.
Here comes the bride, all dressed in… a jean jacket?
In 2021, brides are forgoing the fanciness and embracing comfort. Like we above, why shouldn’t brides get to be themselves and be comfortable on their wedding day? If your favorite jean jacket is a staple of your wardrobe in everyday life, why not rock it on your big day? Pinterest Predicts shows a 130% increase in searches year over year for “wedding jean jacket bride” in Canada and the United States.
The beauty of this idea is that you can still have your formal, traditional dress, but throw a jean or leather jacket over it, and you’ve made the look your own. The key is to customize the jacket. Embroider “Mrs. [Insert New Surname Here]” or “Bride” or “Wifey.” Add rhinestones, tassels, flowers, stars… This is your chance to get creative and show off your personality!
Ditch the fancy venue and tie the knot at the courthouse
Not into the idea of renting out an expensive venue or traveling to a faraway destination? Make it easy on yourself and just tie the knot in your hometown. Searches for “courthouse wedding outfit” on Pinterest have doubled year over year in the United States, Australia, and Germany. The benefits of a courthouse wedding are that it’s cheap, fast, and convenient.
Here’s a great guide to planning the perfect courthouse wedding.
Or, if you still want a small but personalized ceremony, say “I do” in your backyard! It’s free, familiar, and comfortable, and it guarantees your guest list won’t get too big (unless your backyard is enormous, that is).
Trade multi-tier extravagance for a simple wedding cake
Another way weddings are getting simplified is simpler wedding cakes. Pinterest searches for “simple wedding cake small one-tier” have doubled year over year in Indonesia, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Why? Well, they’re cheaper, they’re cuter, and they’re better suited for a small guest list.
No need for an MUA. Simple DIY makeup is in.
Finally, a way to make your wedding simpler and more casual: skip the makeup artist. Many brides hire a makeup artist for themselves and their bridal party, but they can be expensive and limit self-expression. Doing your own makeup (or having a makeup-savvy friend do it for you) will save you money and allow you to do it your own way.

Party Trend Tracking for Spring 2021
Springtime is a season of hope and rebirth each year. We wait all winter long for those beautiful spring days where the sun peeks through the clouds and flowers begin to bloom. Even if we can’t gather this spring, why not stay abreast of fun party-planning trends in the meantime? After all, there’s always spring 2022!
We’ve scoured Pinterest and all the party blogs so you don’t have to, and we’ve compiled a list of our ten favorite party ideas that are trending this spring. We think you’ll love them! Without further ado, let’s get into the trends:
1. Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow
Each year, Pantone decides on a color (or colors) of the year. This year, they picked Ultimate Gray and vibrant yellow Illuminating. They describe the colors like this: “A marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.” That sure sounds like a good color combo for a party and perfect for springtime! Hop on the trend by using this chic, bright color scheme for your next event.
2. A “One in a Melon” Birthday Party
Theming a child’s birthday around their favorite fruit is a cute idea that’s on the rise! We’ve seen everything from a Strawberry Lemonade Stand girl’s birthday party (SO cute, and we have the perfect party favors) to a watermelon-themed birthday party (super on-trend lately, and what better way to celebrate warmer weather?). You could get creative with any fruit you or your child likes. Try tying in the Color of the Year with a lemon-themed bash!
3. Cactus-Themed Parties
Cactuses (or is it cacti?) are a hot trend this spring season. Because really, who doesn’t love a cute succulent? We’ve seen lots of kids’ birthday parties with this theme, but the trend doesn’t have to be limited to that. The theme could be used for a wedding, bachelorette party, baby shower, gender reveal, or a “just because” party!

4. Easter Bunny Grazing Board
Charcuterie boards are a trend that’s been around for a few years now and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon! Instead, folks are finding ways to reinvent the idea in new and creative ways. We love this idea as a fun way to incorporate ideas associated with Easter--candy, pastel eggs, carrots, and other veggies the Easter Bunny would love!
5. Color Block Backdrops
This one could work for any party as a way to bring big, bright colors into a space. It’s a great way to make a color scheme super obvious in a way that smaller decor pieces can’t. (How fun would blue and pink backdrops be for a gender reveal party?)
6. Florals Revamped
Miranda Priestley once said, “Florals in spring? Groundbreaking.” Floral is a timeless spring staple, meaning it’s hard to go wrong, but why not mix it up? We’ve seen lots of fun spins on this classic spring theme, and a few stand out. We especially love the idea of a garden party, inspired by the classic English tradition. This could work for a kid’s birthday party all the way up to a bridal shower! No garden necessary--you can create your own with floral decor.
Or what about a floral-themed tea party? Something about tea parties just screams “spring” to us. We also love the idea of theming a party around one specific flower (hydrangeas, sunflowers, roses, etc.). Another interesting idea is a “moody” floral spring party using darker pink and purple hues.

7. Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Rainbow parties are on the rise, and what better time to use this fun theme than spring? Rainbows evoke spring flowers and St. Patrick’s Day, making it the perfect party idea for a March or April birthday.
(Psst--what about combining this idea with #8 to make a pastel rainbow theme?)
8. Pretty in Pastel
Pastels are in and so spring! It’s a misconception that pastels are reserved for Easter. Choosing “pastel” as your party theme takes the stress out of picking a color scheme--just use them all!

9. Jumbo Balloons
Balloons have been a party go-to forever. In 2021, we’re going big when it comes to balloons. Jumbo balloons are super fun and can be used in so many different ways to make your color scheme pop (quite literally).
10. Travel-Themed Parties
2020 was a year of restricted travel. Why not celebrate travel in 2021? Even if we still can’t travel, we can bring the adventure to our parties. Use symbols like the globe, an atlas, a compass, an airplane, and clouds to bring the wanderlust to your home. If you have a curious kiddo who loves learning about other cultures, this could be a great birthday party theme.

2021's Top Wedding Trends
It’s no secret 2020 was a year that changed just about everything about our lives. Sadly, weddings were not exempt. Many soon-to-be brides and grooms across the world were disappointed when stay-at-home measures took place, deeming the big family and friends gathering they dreamt of impossible.
Yet, the beauty of weddings is that it was never about the large gatherings. Couples realized this when they found alternate, COVID-safe ways of celebrating their love. As a result, 2020 changed the way we’re getting married.
It’s safe to say we’re all looking forward to the hopefully much brighter future of weddings that 2021 will bring. While the pandemic isn’t over, we can hope for an eventual return to normal wedding ceremonies, maybe even this year!
In the meantime, we’ve picked up some great tips from the COVID weddings of 2020, which will come in handy if you, a loved one, or a client plans to tie the knot in the times of ‘rona. Without further ado, here are 10 of 2021’s top wedding trends (both COVID-related and not) for your inspiration.
1. More Intimate Gatherings
This one’s a no-brainer. Fewer people = less risky gatherings. But it might not just be the coronavirus that spawned the “microwedding” trend. Studies show millennials prefer small weddings to large ones. This preference comes down to the numbers. Weddings are expensive, and millennials are a cash-strapped generation. Plus, it’s not just about the bride and groom’s bank account--attending weddings are also costly for guests! Guests are more motivated to attend and more likely to enjoy smaller weddings, since it feels like more of an honor to be included.
2. “Wed Now, Party Later”
Many couples are opting not to have a large or small wedding celebration during this time. But that doesn’t mean they’re going to postpone tying the knot! The “wed now, party later” trend allows couples to say “I do” now, whether privately or virtually, with family and friends, and postpone celebrating with family and friends AC (after COVID).
3. Virtual Planning and Gathering
Speaking of saying “I do” virtually, virtual weddings or “Zoom weddings” have been on the rise. This allows couples to have either a private or small ceremony (saving on both cost and risk) while including a large number of people through a livestream. Services like Wedfuly make it easy (and technical difficulty-free).
Additionally, technology has helped make the wedding planning process safer. Everything from trying on wedding dresses to touring venues can now all be done virtually.
4. Bringing the Coziness of Indoors Outside
Another method of keeping things more COVID-friendly is moving things outside. Expect a majority of spring and summer 2021 weddings to be outdoors, likely under a tent. Couples will try to bring the hominess of the indoors outside with romantic, warm concept lighting and comfy furniture.
5. Sophisticated Greenery Galore
Green = good in 2021! The natural, eco-friendly aesthetic is in. That might manifest in outdoor weddings (see above) and green decor galore. Think eucalyptus leaves, succulents, ferns, and garlands. Opting for greenery over florals helps create a more uniform look. For couples that love the minimalist look, this is a good way to go.
6. To Register or Not to Register…
We already mentioned the financial woes of millennials and how it’s changing the wedding industry. Registries are another tradition that millennials might be giving the boot. Registries are a great way for couples to let their guests know what gifts they actually want, but they can also put financial pressure on guests.
In the wake of a year of much uncertainty, 2021 may see many couples either ditching the registry or giving it a remix, such as asking guests to donate to a charity. Couples might also ask for experiences (concert tickets or a national park pass) rather than material things. They could also ask guests to contribute to a starter fund to buy a new home or adopt a pet.
7. Eco-Friendly and Intentional
Sustainability and intentionality will be big trends in 2021. Consumers are thinking more and more about the ethicality of the brands they support and their own carbon footprint. There are infinite ways couples can incorporate sustainability into their big day--upcycled decor, local food and flowers, and sustainable clothing, to name a few. People are recognizing their purchasing power, and they’re choosing to use that power for good by purchasing from sustainable and diverse vendors.
8. Wedding on a Weekday?
According to The Knot, “about 21 percent of couples with weddings in 2020 already plan to move their receptions to a different day of the week.” While it may seem absurd to have a momentous event like a wedding on an average Monday, there are tons of reasons to opt for a weekday. Primarily: It’s way cheaper for the bride and groom and guests alike. There’s also way more availability, which allows couples greater ability to hand-pick the day (getting married on the anniversary of the day you met).
9. Laughter is the Best Medicine
2021 will feature many weddings postponed from 2020 that, unfortunately, may still be subject to the same restrictions. While some may feel defeated and depressed, many will choose to laugh it off. Expect to see some humorous invitations (and cancellations and postponements) this year. Let’s make "At Last" by Etta James the official first dance song of 2021!
10. The Minimoon
To finish off their celebrations, couples will be going on “minimoons.” That means a small honeymoon that requires little to no travel. With all the travel restrictions and risks associated with air travel, as well as the high price point of destination honeymoons, many newlyweds will celebrate their new union closer to home (at least until a “megamoon” is in the cards!).
